FAST! Child's V-Neck Raglan
By Diana Sullivan
There
are a number of shortcuts in this sweater.
Take your time with the first one and get used to the
routine. The
double-decrease edges save time over decreasing every two rows, and on the
front of the sweater,
the
v-neck is done by dividing the work at the neck and doing a double-decrease
at the armhole edge and
a single decrease at the neck edge every fourth row.
The
neckband is simplified, a single thickness k1, p1 ribbing. It's picked up from the finished garment
pieces on the main bed, then the stitches are transferred to
set up the 1 x 1 ribbing. It has
either a miter
and a seam at center front or a lapped center front.
Two of
the photographed sweaters were dressed up by adding fair isle, either above
the welts or just below
the armhole shaping.
The
short-sleeved blue baby sweater was Bare yarn from Knitpicks
type-dyed with blue Kool-Aid.

For the
mitered neckband, make sure to pick up one safety pin stitch and e-wrap one
more next to it.
Those
two stitches must be on the main bed.
Then transfer the next needle to the ribber
bed, leave
one of the main bed, and continue transferring for the 1 x
1 arrangement. Each row, move
the two end neck edge stitches over by one stitch for the
decrease. Whenever there is a ribber stitch
opposite a MB stitch, transfer the ribber
stitch onto the main bed stitch and take the ribber
needle out of work.
Make the
second section the same way. Do a
mattress stitch to put the two mitred edges
together.
